Pok Chi Lau: Flow China

Pok Chi Lau is a photographer and teacher from Lawrence, KS who has made Chinese migration and the emergence of China a focal point of his work over the past 40 years. Pok Chi was my photography teacher in college and had an enormous influence on me and my work in terms of how I approached image making as well as how I looked at different cultures through the lens of a camera. He still remains a strong influence of mine as well as a friend and so I was very excited to learn that he has a new book of his work out called Flow China!

Fall From Grace

Last Sunday, I hung out with a great friend of mine, Ryan Jones, who was passing through town. Ryan is a recent graduate of KU who’s career in film is taking off with his recent documentary, “Fall From Grace”.

From the website for the movie:

Fall From Grace is the first in-depth documentary feature film to focus on Pastor Fred Phelps and his hate group, and features unprecedented access, interviews with Pastor Phelps and other members of the Westboro Baptist Church. Fall From Grace also includes interviews with the myriad of dissenters: Topeka leaders and officials, ministers, theologians, and two of Pastor Phelps’s adult children who have chosen to leave the church and their family.
